IV Science Festival was held in Ulyanovsk Region on February 3-8, 2014. The Festival included over 100 events confined to the Day of Russian Science. It was attended by about three thousand people - schoolchildren, students, academics, representatives of the regional scientific community.
The Festival was sponsored by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation and the Government of the Ulyanovsk region.
According to the event organizers, this year the Festival’s geographic reach has been extended. Several activities were held in Ulyanovsk, Dimitrovgrad, Inza, Ulyanovsk, Cherdaklinsk and Novospassk districts. The programme included conferences, lectures, "round tables", master classes, popular science exhibition, honoring outstanding regional scientists. During the week, Ulyanovsk scientists gave lectures in schools and such experiment events as "Little researcher" were held in pre-school institutions.
The activities of the Republican Youth Innovation Creativity Centres and Lego Centre, located in Technopark "Idea", were presented at the Festival’s Exhibition. The event guests and participants were told about the YICC’s opportunities and prospects.
The Festival guests were explained that the Lego Centre’s students gain engineering knowledge used in the modern world of science, engineering and design. Students design, build and program a fully functional robot models. They learn how to behave as young scientists conducting simple research, assessing and measuring behavior, writing and presenting their own results. They demonstrate their achievements in various robotics festivals.
Senior students are engaged in the Youth Innovation Creativity Centre “Idea”, the first Centre opened in Russia in February 2013. To date, the Republic has 10 YICCs equipped with the necessary modern universal equipment and used for both purposes: educational and technical support of innovative projects (prototyping). Tatarstan centres, since opening, have been admitted by more than 5,000 children who enrolled on a unique program “Public Technical Creativity Workshop”. Schoolchildren and students have the opportunity to implement their ideas using modern universal equipment. The first student’s company has already created within the lessons in the YICC. The students have constructed 3D-printer and are currently engaged in its promotion.
