On September 1, 2011 a meeting between representatives of the State Council of the Republic of Tatarstan, Chamber of Commerce and Industry of RT, universities, large industrial enterprises and representatives of the New York State Assembly and Senate. The event was held within the II Interregional meeting of representatives of the legislative branch, members of the State council of the Republic of Tatarstan, members and senators of the New York State Assembly and Senate with a view to implement measures for inter-parliamentary cooperation between the State Council of the Republic of Tatarstan and the Legislature of the New York State.
The main goal of the visit is to promote business cooperation between companies of Tatarstan and the State of New York, to develop tourism, to facilitate student and faculty exchange, to foster cooperation in the field of culture, to share experience in lawmaking, and to promote further inter-parliamentary cooperation.
The meeting from the side of the State of New York was attended by: the New York State Assembly member, Task Force on New Americans Chair Alec Brook-Krasny; Senator of the New York State, Chairman of Majority Program Development and Vice-Chair of the Senate Committee on Banks Hugh Farley; the New York State Assembly woman and Chair of the Children and Family Committee Amy Paulin; Senator of the New York State, Democratic Party Chair of the Senate Standing Committee on Education Suzi Oppenheimer and others.
The Republic of Tatarstan was represented by: Tatarstan State Council Chairman of the Board on Economy, Investments and Business Marat Galeev, Chairman of Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Tatarstan Shamil Ageev, Deputy Economy Minister of the Republic of Tatarstan Artem Zdunov, Deputy General Director of JSC “Tatneftechiminvest-holding” Ilgizar Yakushev, Rector of Kazan National Research Technological University German Dyakonov, Vice-rector on Innovation of Kazan National Research Technical University named after A.N. Tupolev Nickolay Abrukov and Director of Innovation of Technopark “Idea” Oleg Ibragimov.
During a meeting the guests were presented the main activity areas of Technopark “Idea” and Nanotechnology Centre established on its basis. The American colleagues were acquainted with social and economic development of Tatarstan, innovation and industrial infrastructure objects of the republic, innovation and investment potential of the republic, and also there were designated the most promising areas of cooperation.
Also, the American guests during their visit to the Republic of Tatarstan met with President of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov, Chairman of the State Council of the Republic of Tatarstan Farid Mukhametshin, visited Kazan (the Volga) Federal University, IT-Park, Kazan Kremlin and etc.
By results of official 5-day visit of the American delegation, the participants of the II Interregional meeting of representatives of the legislative branch, members of the State council of the Republic of Tatarstan, members and senators of the New York State Assembly and Senate, prepared the following resolution:
- modern Russian and American relations are build up not only at the federal level but also at the interregional which is a substantial contribution to the relationship “reloading” between two states;
- interregional Russian and American relations between Tatarstan and New York, based on the principles of the Unites Nations and the federal legislation of both states as priorities consider the development of trade and economic, education and research, sports and cultural relations and etc.
It should be reminded that on January 25-29, 2010 the parliamentary delegation of the Republic of Tatarstan headed by Chairman of the RT State Council Farid Mukhametshin made an official visit to the United States. It was the first visit of the RT parliamentary delegation to the U.S. at such level. During a visit to the U.S. the Memorandum of Understanding between the State Council of Tatarstan and the New York State Senate, as well as the Memorandum of Understanding in the field of nanotechnology between Technopark “Idea” and the College of Nanoscale Science & Engineering (CNSE) of the University at Albany (State University of New York) were signed.
